Tickets Please!

"Everything I learned I learned from the movies." -Audrey Hepburn

When I heard that the people behind the Hottie Cooterati Experience were planning an event based on movie genres and celebrating the movie going experience, I definitely wanted to blog the event.  I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that one one way I escape the stress and exhaustion of day to day living is to go the movies.  There's something exciting about sitting in a theatre for two hours and being totally engaged in what is up on that big screen.  And yes, popcorn, diet coke and chocolate are an excellent addition!

The Cinema build is incredible.  When you land there, it really does seem like one of those massive multiplex theaters you see in New York City or San Francisco (or wherever you happen to live).  I especially love the snack bar (figures, right?) and the carpet-the carpet looks just like the carpet you see in the theaters.

Enough talk!  Hopscotch has several adorable pose sets in the SciFi section.  I love the whimsy of Beam Me Up.  I'm not a huge SciFi fan but I can watch Alien and Aliens over and over again.

More to come...lots more!  Cinema opens TODAY (not sure on the time) and will run through October 27th. This is really a great shopping experience and event.  Don't miss it!

Single Frame Stories-Three Prompts

I've been participating in a new challenge Single Frame Stories.  Every Saturday a new word or phrase is given and the challenge is to create a single frame story based on that prompt.  You can submit one image with up to 140 optional characters.  It's been fun for me and well, challenging.  When I see the prompt on Saturday, several ideas immediately come to me all of which I disgard at the end.  Those first ideas always lean toward the serious but on Friday, which is when I post my stories, I end up with something more whimsical or not too serious.

Week one:  Last Words "I can't believe that Ass killed me off in the first part of the book. I'll take Dostoevsky any day."

My first idea for Last Words was to take an image based on a conversation I had with a friend a couple of months ago.  The conversation was our last because we had a falling out.  However, that was too serious for me and I didn't want to relive the event over and over again.  So I thought of a character in one of my favorite books which will remain nameless (both the character and the book) because the image above is sort of a spoiler.

Week 2:  Illumination

I loved this prompt and all the stories that the other participants posted.  Illumination was inspired by the Fortune Teller Table by Mystique.  I thought the image was better without text.

Week 3:  Grave Mistake "I should have picked Door #1."

This prompt was hard for me.  I thought of the obvious image of a grave but didn't want to go that way, however, some other people did interesting images of graves.  I then thought of a fork in the road type of story but I couldn't get it done in time (I usually work on these on Friday morning.  They are due on Friday.  I always wait until the last minute which is when my creatively usually kicks in).  {what next} has an awesome hot air balloon available now at collabor88 which inspired this image.  Grave Mistake made me think of decisions and choices which are very hard for me to make.  I struggle with decisions, so much so that I avoid the decision altogether.  And at the other extreme, sometimes I make choices quickly without thinking things through.  I was talking to someone about this recently and she told me that I shouldn't look at every choice or decision I make as the wrong one, rather I should look at how I handle the decision.  If it's the wrong decision, then own it, fix it and move on.

Next week's prompt (due Friday) is:  Positive.  Join the Single Frame Stories Flickr group and please add me on flickr too.  I would love to see you pics!

two Years+Dreams

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
Eleanor Roosevelt

I always liked the above quote from Eleanor Roosevelt.  It kind of sums up how I like to live my life.  I'm definitely a dreamer and not in the not living in reality type of way.  But I dream big and set huge goals for myself, some of which I never reach (I need to learn how to make attainable goals).

So I've had this blog for two years now.  My first entry was on June 28, 2010 (as usual I'm late with this post.  But I've been late with everything lately).  If you had told me two years ago that I would still be writing on translucent journey in 2012, I probably would have laughed.

But yet here I am.  I love to write and for some reason, I like to talk about rl things through the eyes of pixels.  In the next few months, I plan to knock out several tarot posts so I can at least complete the first ten cards of the major arcana.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go here and read my very long tarot entries.  I don't really have any big dreams for this blog other than to improve my photo skills.  I do appreciate the people that look at translucent journey (all two or three of you).  Seriously, if my happiness depended on how many hits I get in a day, I would have  stopped writing long ago.

So here's to another two years?  Maybe.  Probably not.  I don't know.  We don't know what the future holds for us which does keep life interesting.  Every day brings new experiences, new ideas, new people, new friends, new lovers, new ideas, new emotions and new dreams.  And if one of these days is interesting enough to write about than I will.  Or I can just blog about hair (or skin or prefabs).

Someone told me this week in an indirect way (they thought they were being nice by not saying it directly I guess) that what I was doing with my life was basically a waste of time, that I didn't have what it takes to be successful (*side story*:  a former professor of mine told me something similar once, when I was applying to graduate schools, "you can't go to graduate school-you don't have what it takes".  I never forgot that and I think of her every time I look at my Masters Degree-which is never *end of side story*).  I've been thinking of this conversation all week.  Instead of letting their opinion affect me (what I usually do), I've just become more angry (in a good way) and passionate about what I'm doing.  I'm a firm believer in pursing your dreams and reaching your goals and doing what you love doing whether it be publishing a book, having a successful business (in rl or sl), going back to school or having a kick-ass sl blog.  Don't let some dumb a-hole make you think differently.  Ever!

Happy July First!
